Rosebud, or why I love Italy and it’s roses

Allover Italy, but especially in our garden, one finds a lot of wonderfull roses. Mid of may, our roses are in full blossom now, so I thought it was a good idea to make some photos and post them on this blog. For quiet some time, italian roses had a remarkable influence not only on artists like Orson Welles. When he wrote his classic «Citizen Kane», "Rosabella" was the name given to "Rosebud" in the italian version of his book. I am still looking forward to get to see the movie «Rosabella: Orson Welles’s Italian Years», by Gianfranco Giagni and  Ciro Giorgini , shot on location in Italy back in 1993 (Original, «Rosabella: la storia italiana di Orson Welles»).  As far as I know, it is the only  film  trying to give an immagination of the special relation between Orson Welles and Italy, the country where he used to live about 20 years of his life. Mr. Berlusconi, the prime-minister is gone, but his media-empire with a heavy influence on daily newspapers and the monopoly like structure of commercial TV-channels created by him, still exists. The last few years under Berlusconi have been a heavy burden in respect of quality in all media of the country. With the new government in place, I am cautiously optimistic though, that there might be the chance for some change to the better. At least these were some of the thoughts I had when smelling those roses and taking the pictures this afternoon.
